Who is Agent Brain Spit and what does that even mean?!
Agent Brain Spit is a warrior of the mind who wears many hats. There is no one style of creation, but one main goal - human understanding. The brain is a powerful being, and through connections to the body, each different brain can communicate feelings and emotions in very unique ways. Wether it be through craft, dance, song, or writing, the brain is constantly spitting out new thoughts, ideas and feelings. When those thoughts are shared with others, a deeper understanding of what it is to be human can be reached. The Agent decided to capture their unique brain frequencies through any medium that was available, and to share that creative space with other brains through workshops, community building events, and by having harder conversations that we don’t normally have.
The brain behind this mental warrior is non-binary artist, Bianca Berdeguer. Born and raised in New York City, Bianca has experienced an intense amount of human interaction, from great to maybe not so great, to permanently scarring. Some things that can hold a person back from living their best life just kept happening, and it shaped the way they interacted with not only the world, but with themselves. The only thing that seemed to keep Bianca grounded and calm was art. It started with writing short stories, to doodling with colored pencils, then on to experimenting with paint on clothing, to making jewelry, then eventually moved on to special effects makeup. Inspired by their love of arts and horror films, Bianca decided to leave the big apple and head over to Pittsburgh to attend school just for special makeup effects and fantasy art design.
In 2013, Bianca moved to Pittsburgh to start their special effects career, earning an Associates degree in Specialized Business. Shortly after graduation in 2014, Bianca worked in a handful of haunted houses throughout Pennsylvania, working in set design and costuming. These jobs led to other gigs doing makeup for high school musicals, medical trainings, short films, halloween parties, costuming for performing artists and more.
Through working with a bigger network of artists and people from all over the globe, Bianca realized that in just talking about humanity and expressing how they felt, other people started to express themselves, too, but in a way that was new to them. Some people expressed that they never talked about some of the things they were going through simply because they thought others wouldn’t understand. In facilitated group talks about life and feelings and unconventional topics, the groups began to feel a bit better about how they looked at life, because they had deeper understandings of not only themselves, but of other people as well.
In 2016, Bianca knew that there had to be a way to get more people involved in this deeper level of human interaction. Thus, Agent Brain Spit was born. It started with small works of art, mostly drawings that took their anxieties away, and then grew to bigger and different kinds of art. The bigger works of art turned into healing workshops, where participants would gather and create art together, journaled, and tried new things. Just 2 years later marked the birth of Agent Brain Spit’s Mental Health Parties, which were themed gatherings where people could set their troubles down for a bit and just let their inner child rejoice. The parties would have curated music, games, costumes, props, and a fully immersive themed world that guests could get lost in and have fun connecting with other humans in a way they never thought they would. After each event, the participants were asked how they felt, and they all had basically the same thing to say: ‘Wow! I feel so good right now.’ The participants left with treats and prizes and even made new friends, which was Bianca’s goal after all, community building.
Once the pandemic hit in 2020, community building and parties were not really the best idea, so Bianca had to think of something else to continue Agent Brain Spit’s journey, and they did so through snail mail. A healing community pen pal exchange system was born! Bianca would make packages for participants with small hand made items, games and challenges, and inspiring words. Some participants would send things back with their own works of art and letters. These packages were traded with people for quite some time, and are still being exchanged to this day.
In the last couple years, Bianca has worked on 2 independent horror films, participated in the Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project, 10 Minute Play Fest, and is currently working at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in Pittsburgh, where they have had much creative input for events. Agent Brain Spit continues to make art, mostly to heal but sometimes for sale, and is always experimenting with new mediums and methods of healing. New community events and workshop ideas are being formatted, along with fine tuning their newly found voice acting venture.
“There is just something about art that really is healing. It can take out your frustrations, sadness, and pain and shape them into something that can be seen and felt by others. It can also highlight your happy moments and favorite subjects, which can inspire and warm others’ spirits as well. Art is the communication from our brains and spirits transformed into an experience that we can share with others and connect on deeper levels of being.” -Bianca Berdeguer
